Welcome!

This site is a hub for researchers and educators committed to advancing comprehensive sexuality education in Ontario.  Prompted by the new Health and Physical Education Curriculum in 2015 and the subsequent public controversy, this digital community promotes evidence-based policy and social justice-oriented research to support educators and students.  We are holding a graduate student workshop in Toronto on November 17-18, 2017.  Presentations and resources from the workshop will be posted here, along with published research relating to sexuality education in Ontario.

The Touchy Subject team was outraged and disappointed to hear of the new Conservative government's plans to scrap the 2015 curriculum on human development and sexual health.   In contrast to the most extreme protestors' complaints and Ford's statements, the curriculum was already extensively consulted on and reflects the opinions of a majority of Ontario parents, as well as the opinions of experts in sexual health education.  Without a coherent plan to teach all Ontario students about sexual development, gender diversity, digital safety, and consent, the Conservative government is putting our children directly at risk.

We are actively involved in organizing against this rash policy shift and promoting public education about the need for the 2015 curriculum.  If you haven't yet contacted your MPP, please visit https://wehaveyourbackontario.org/eaction/.

Touchy Subject PI Lauren Bialystok has been in the media speaking about the shifting policies in Ontario and their implications for education:
